Beschreibung: Organized as part of University Library’s annual Willard Lecture series, these events will feature Margaret Randall’s conversation with Nicaraguan revolutionary and writer Gioconda Belli, which includes a reading from Randall’s new memoir, I Never Left Home.
Margaret Randall (born December 6, 1936, New York City, USA) is an American-born writer, photographer, activist and academic. Born in New York City, she lived for many years in Spain, Mexico, Cuba, and Nicaragua, and spent time in North Vietnam during the last months of the U.S. war in that country. She has written extensively on her experiences abroad and back in the United States, and has taught at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and other colleges. In Managua / Nicaragua she lived between 1980 and 1984 writing about Nicaraguan Women: Sandino´s daughters and Sandino´s daughters revisited.
Gioconda Belli (* 9. Dezember 1948 in Managua, Nicaragua) ist als nicaraguanische Schriftstellerin und Lyrikerin eine der international bekanntesten lateinamerikanischen Autorinnen. Sie studierte Kommunikationswissenschaften in Spanien und den USA. 1970 schloss sie sich der FSLN an, der Sandinistischen Nationalen Befreiungsfront gegen die Diktatur der Somoza-Familie. Ihr schriftstellerisches, soziales und politisches Engagement stieß auf harsche Kritik von Seiten des Bürgertums. Eines ihrer wichtigsten Bücher ist Bewohnte Frau. Roman (übers. von Lutz Kliche).
